Granès ...

Granès village ...

A growing village of about 120 inhabitants of all ages, Granès nestles on a plateau about 360 metres above sea level. With easy access to shops, commerce and transport it is an ideal and safe place to live. A bus provides transport to schools and colleges in the nearby towns of Quillan and Limoux.

Around and about ...

It takes about 2½ hours easy walking to arrive at the famous village of Rennes-le-Chateau, passing on the way the cave where Mary Magdelene is rumoured to have sheltered. Made famous by priest Berenger Sauniere at the turn of the 20th century, Rennes-le-Chateau is steeped in folklore and many books have been written about the alignments and geometry of the area.

The ‘inverted’ mountain of Bugarach is near by and, close to our village you’ll find the remains of a 16th century castle, the ruins of the Chateau Templiers and, the most amazing sculptures from a local artist.

Flora, fauna and birds of prey are in abundance and beautiful orchids grow wild all around. There’s even a salt water spring bubbling out of the ground at nearby Sougraine. Granès has its own equestrian centre for riders of all ages on day trips or longer excursions. If you enjoy walking, this is truly an area to discover and savour!
